As part of this program, emerging playwrights (those with one or no produced plays) work with a dramaturge on a full-length play for one year.
Playwrights Mentoring Program
In partnership with Toronto-based theatre companies, recommended playwrights are invited to apply for the opportunity to be a part of DD’s free emerging playwright’s residency. Applicants are then selected based on their submitted work and are matched with a host theatre, working with a dramaturge to develop a full-length play. The program runs for one year and at the end of the residency, in-house workshop readings will be held at each host theatre.
Playwrights who have benefited from DD’s support include Ins Choi, Rebecca Applebaum, Nisha Ahuja. Based on the outcome of the 2014/2015 inaugural session, DD may continue the program for future sessions.
We would like to congratulate emerging playwrights Jo SiMalaya Alcampo, Meghan Swaby, and Shaista Latif on completing the inaugural Diaspora Dialogues Emerging Playwrights Residency Program, and thank our partnering theatres and in-house dramaturges Cahoots Theatre Projects & Marjorie Chan, Obsidian Theatre Company & Mel Hague, Buddies in Bad Times & evalyn parry. The plays will be showcased at public readings. See the schedule here.
