Christina Wong
Emerging Voice 2009
Christina Wong is a Toronto-based director and playwright. Selected directing and writing credits: Assistant Director on The Madness of the Square (Cahoots Theatre Projects/Factory Theatre); The Magic Paintbrush (Pass the Parcel Productions/Toronto Fringe Festival 2006); And the Drum Continues to Beat (Pass the Parcel Productions/Toronto Fringe Festival 2005); and Voices (SMC Drama Society). Christina was also part of Nightwood Theatre's 2008 Write from the Hip program and fu-GEN's Kitchen 4. She also had the opportunity to be part of the 2008-09 Toronto Star Community Editorial Board.
After being part of the Diaspora Dialogues mentorship programme in 2009 where she further developed her play A Song For Tomorrow, Christina was given the opportunity further work on the play in a workshop setting leading to a public reading in September 2010. The workshop was made possible by New Harlem Productions and the Canada Council for the Arts. An excerpt of the play was also featured the January 2011 edition of the Maple Tree Literary Supplement (Issue 8).
More recently, Christina is thrilled to receive an Ontario Arts Council Theatre Creators' Reserve grant though the Native Earth Performing Arts to further develop A Song For Tomorrow.
And finally, Christina is in her final year of her Ph.D in Ethnomusicology; her thesis is on Subway Musicians in Toronto.
