Dawn Promislow
Emerging Voice 2009
Dawn Promislow was born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa. She left South Africa with her family in 1977 and lived in London, England, before returning to study English and French literature at the University of Cape Town. She has lived in Toronto since 1987, and is a graduate of the Humber School for Writers. Her non-fiction has appeared in Saturday Night, while her fiction has been published in Maple Tree Literary Supplement and is upcoming in TOK: Writing the New Toronto, Book 5. Her short story “Billy” was shortlisted for UK-based Wasafiri’s New Writing Prize 2009. She is a recipient of an Ontario Arts Council Writers’ Works in Progress grant. Her collection Jewels and Other Stories will be published by TSAR Publications in the fall of 2010.
