Deepa Shankaran

Deepa is a Toronto based writer and researcher with an interest in identity, migration and citizenship. As part of her current work with the Association for Women’s Rights in Development, her articles on religion, gender and politics will soon appear on opendemocracy.net, which features news and analysis on human rights and democracy. She has written for a number of feminist research and advocacy organizations in India, the UK, Switzerland, the US, and Canada, and has conducted field research with young people in East and West Africa, Thailand and Ecuador. Her fiction explores the themes of transit, displacement and translation.
