Sabrina Ramnanan
Emerging Voice 2008
Sabrina Ramnanan was born in Toronto to Trinidadian parents. She completed her bachelor of arts in English and bachelor of education at the University of Toronto. Sabrina is an active member of the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario and was recently acclaimed 2nd Vice-President of the Toronto Occasional Teacher Local.
Sabrina writes because of the wonderful tingly feeling it gives her, and because there is something thrilling about creating her own reality. She is passionate about lending a voice to Indo-Caribbean immigrants in her writing. When she isn’t writing, Sabrina can be found reading, teaching and dreaming in Scarborough and Ajax.
Current Projects
Sabrina is currently working on two projects. Her first, a novel that explores the troubles of a second-generation Canadian caught in the tangles of a quarter-life crisis, who must leap back in time and across waters to discover who she really is. Her second, not being overwhelmed by the first.

After participating in Diaspora Dialogue’s mentorship program, Sabrina’s works have appeared in Cerulean Rain, Writing in the Margins, Prospere, and The Caribbean Writer (University of the Virgin Islands, 2009).
