“My objective is to give you that shock value. I want you to feel something. Almost like you just got a sudden jolt of electricity through your body” says Denise Thomas, otherwise known as Denise Deion.
As a singer/rapper/songwriter/producer and dancer, Deion has garnered comparisons to the likes of Missy Elliott, Estelle, Lauryn Hill and more. “I’d meet people and they’d say ‘you know who you remind me of? I was flattered but it took me a long time to embrace it because I was just looking to not be a carbon copy. Now I’m okay with it.”
Having gained her experience in the independent circuit for many years, the artist formerly known as Nyce Touch is ready for a new start. Deion believes in captivating her audience with the kind of music that makes you dance, or kick back with a glass of wine, and/or a partner.
Since graduating from the recording arts program at IADT (International Academy of Design), she has put her off-stage experience to use as a youth engineer for a studio program in Jane and Finch in Toronto. On-stage, she has had the opportunity to perform at many events and venues such as The Government, The Opera House, and Dundas Square. Deion has performed on a five-city Ontario tour with Joell Ortiz in 2011. In addition, she has also made an appearance on MuchMusic, in which she was the only female rapper on the now-defunct Rapcity battle.
