Jean arrived in Canada as a child in 1952 and has lived in Toronto ever since. Jean’s cultural heritage is Polish, but her parents came to Canada from Poland by way of work camps and Displaced Persons camps in Germany, and after working as refugees in the coal mines of Belgium; consequently, roots and home have meant many things. Jean’s early love of words led her to an MA in Linguistics and a career as a librarian, and her interest in travel has taken her to many parts of the world for extended periods.
