Kate Cayley is a writer based in Toronto. She is the artistic director of Stranger Theatre, and has co-created, written and directed eight plays with the company which have been presented across Canada and around the world. She is also the co-founder and co-artistic director of The Cooking Fire Theatre Festival, an event celebrating theatre, food and public space held in Toronto since 2004. Her first book, a novel for young adults called The Hangman in the Mirror, was recently published by Annick Press. She is currently a playwright-in-residence at Tarragon Theatre, where her play After Akhmatova premiered as part of Tarragon’s 40th Anniversary Season, and was subsequently nominated for the international Susan Smith Blackburn Prize recognizing the work of women playwrights. Her first collection of poetry, Signs and Wonders, is forthcoming from Brick Books.
