A Filipino bowler with a taste for married women. A girl of ill repute chosen by God to be a savior. A failed writer commissioned to write the obituary of the neighbourhood racist. Dora-nominated playwright Catherine Hernandez presents tales from Toronto’s dodgy east side told in plays and short fiction on May 24, 8:00 p.m, at the Kapisanan Philippine Centre for Arts and Culture, 167 Augusta Avenue. Hosted by Proud Scarberian, Reese Baguio. Photo exhibit and site design by Catherine Hernandez. Excerpts from Catherine Hernandez’s short stories “Saint Candice” and “The Bluffs” will be followed by a staged reading of her latest play, Kilt Pins. Directed/dramaturged by Ruth Madoc-Jones. Featuring Richie Guzman, Andrea Kwan, Elizabeth Lofranco, Anita Majumdar, and Morgan Norwich. Contact 416.648.7340 or info@loudlady.com for more information.
