Adam Elliott Segal

WRITER/MENTEE
Adam Elliott Segal is a writer and editor based in Toronto. His award-winning work has been published in Maisonneuve, This, Reader’s Digest, enRoute, Chatelaine, The Vancouver Province, Sportsnet, The Toronto Star, The Feathertale Review and subTerrain, where his short story “Richard” won first runner-up in the 2013 LUSH Triumphant Literary Awards contest and his story “The Dahlia” was nominated for a 2020 National Magazine Award. “The Black Market Babies of Montreal,” a memoir and investigative piece about his mother’s adoption, was the cover story of the 2017 summer issue of Maisonneuve. His short story “Burning” won the 2020 Toronto Star Short Story contest.
He holds a Combined Honours Degree in English/Comparative Literature from the University of Western Ontario and has completed both the Ryerson Publishing Certificate and the Diaspora Dialogues mentorship program, where he worked with Governor General’s nominee Shyam Selvadurai. He recently worked with Canadian National Jewish Book Award winner Joe Kertes at the Humber School for Writers, completing a graduate certificate in fiction.
After previous editorial positions at Toro, Spafax and Sportsnet, he has published three books with Firefly Books: MMA Now!, Basketball Stars and the bestselling Basketball Now, currently in its third edition. He is working on a novel about horse racing.
