WRITER/MENTEE
Kryslyne-Mai Ancheta (she/her/siya) is Filipina-Canadian artist of many seasonings
based in Tkaronto, Canada. From York University, she has obtained a degree in Classical Voice
Performance. Currently she is a musician, singer-songwriter, theater actor and poet.
Within the theater industry, Kryslyne actively participates in the development of new
Canadian plays and musicals. Her recent performance credits include: Play On! at the
St.Lawrence Shakespeare Festival, Violet in Guildwood at the Next Stage Festival, Prairie Nurse
at Capitol Theatre, and Noche Buena Filipinx at Soulpepper Theatre Company.
She is a quarter of a collective titled Passing Strangers. As a four piece acoustic band,
they walk through the streets of the Tkaronto busking original music. Passing Strangers is the
Flower Child Movement reincarnated to make music accessible and to spark conversations about
economic issues to soothing ideas of ancestral energy.
Kryslyne is a member of Salaysay founded by Jennilee Austria-Bonifacio, that focuses on
supporting Filipinx writers in Tkaronto. Her romantic encounter with poetry began at University
of Toronto under Therese Estacion’s Introduction to Poetry course and has blossomed ever since.
Currently, Kryslyne is mentored by Therese Estacion, her initial teacher who has inspired her
down this literary journey. As a recovering perfectionist, Kryslyne has found poetry to be a
medium that both aids in helping to understand herself and the world surrounding. From
philosophical thought, quantum physics, to Genesis, she finds the poetry in anything encountered
and hopes to share these moments with others.
