Sanjay Talreja

Sanjay Talreja was born and raised in India, and his award-winning documentary work has appeared on television in India, the US, and Canada. He began work in Mumbai on non-fiction projects and subsequently directed a number of issue-based films in India. In the US, he was an editor and producer at the reputed Media Education Foundation. In Canada, he’s worked as an editor on various independent documentaries.
Sanjay has taught classes in documentary film and international cinema at the University of Windsor, Ontario, and at other film schools in Canada and India. He’s worked as a freelance story and field producer on a CBC series and directed a documentary for the National Film Board. Recently, he directed an ultra-low budget, dramatic feature and has received Ontario Arts Council funding for a documentary on the problems facing Toronto’s taxi drivers. He’s also received financial support from the Soros Documentary Fund and has twice been awarded a Quebecor grant.
Sanjay’s films deal with the themes of globalization, migration, identity, and nationalism. He has an MFA in film.
