Open Call! Manager for Marketing & Outreach

To support the expansion of our work, DD seeks a Marketing and Outreach Manager.  This is a contract position  (3 days per week), located in downtown Toronto, reporting directly to the President.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is responsible for publicity, marketing, design, web management and community outreach.

Working closely with the President and Programs Manager, the ideal candidate will have a passion for literature and theatre specifically, and the arts more generally.  This position requires flexibility, excellent time management and organizational skills, and the ability to set and meet deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Join Us This August!

Join Diaspora Dialogues and Lexical for the Slant Reading series! On August 2 at 7pm, there will be an evening of poetry, social justice, dialogue and discussion at the  Montreal Bar & Grill. Not to mention great food! Past and present mentees,  Shawn Salik and Phillip Dwight Morgan are the featured readers and will explore questions of identity, belonging, and race. As always, there will be an open mic, so feel free to share your own work in our safe space. We hope to see you there!

Faye Chisholm Guenther launches her new chapbook, Flood Lands, published by Junction Books.

Rootless

Using a blend of physical theatre, shadow puppetry and projections, Rootless traces the path of a young woman cut off from the land she loves. As an outsider in her new home and facing loss, she travels through a world of dreams, djin, talking animals, a mermaid in the desert, and the moon to find solace.

Through the lens of her real-life experiences with cancer, poet and playwright Priscila Uppal (6 Essential Things, Factory Theatre) creates a magical and uplifting theatrical dialogue between two old friends in the new play What Linda Said. Based on the relationship between Priscila Uppal and Linda Griffiths, the late celebrated Canadian actress, What Linda Said takes a bitingly funny, poetic and personal look at coping with cancer.What Linda Said makes its world premiere at the 2017 Summerworks Festival, August 3 – 13, 2017 at the Factory Theatre Studio.

Earlier this month, ECW Books published a second book, “Sputnik’s Children”, by Terri Favro from the 2011 short form mentorship.
