ARCHIVED EVENT: Speculative Poetry 101 with Terese Mason Pierre

Speculative poetry has seen, in recent years, a rise in engagement and publication. In this intro to speculative poetry workshop, participants will learn: the basics of defining, writing and identifying speculative poetry; how to use literary devices to enhance the speculative elements in their poems; and how to use poetic types to bridge speculative content and form. Time will also be allotted for writing exercises and sharing resources.

About the Presenter

Terese Mason Pierre is a writer, poet, and editor whose work has appeared in the Walrus, ROOM, Brick, Quill & Quire, Uncanny, and Year’s Best Canadian Fantasy and Science Fiction. Her work has been nominated for the bpNichol Chapbook Award, Best of the Net and the Aurora Award. She is one of ten winners of the Writers’ Trust Journey Prize and was named a Writers’ Trust Rising Star. She is an MFA candidate at the University of Guelph, and her debut collection is Myth, is forthcoming Spring 2025 from House of Anansi. Terese lives in Toronto.
