Diaspora Dialogues is excited to participate in this year’s Word on the Street festival at its new location of Harbourfront!

THE STORY BEHIND THE BOOK: FOUR WRITERS ON HOW THEY GOT PUBLISHED

Four culturally diverse writers discuss how they got their first book published. From creative conception to publication, the writers will tell their own stories, with a special focus on how being a writer of colour may have impacted that journey.

Following personal talks and readings from each writer, there will be a lively discussion moderated by Donna-Michelle St. Bernard.

The writers on hand will be: Sabrina Ramnanan (Nothing Like Love, Doubleday Canada), Jon Chan Simpson (Chinkstar, Coach House Books), Jael Richardson(The Stone Thrower, Dundurn Press), and Cherie Dimaline (A Gentle Habit, Kegedonce Books).

Word on the Street

Join DD this month as we return to the City of Toronto’s annual Word on the Street festival. Located under the City of Toronto tent, DD will feature readings from Irfan Ali, Lillian Allen, Heather Birrell, Dorianne Emmerton, and Terri Favro with special host Andrew J. Borkowski. Shortlisted authors for the Toronto Book Awards will also precede and follow DD’s readings, so make sure to check out the tent to catch a sneak peek of this year’s best books!

Queen West Street Festival

This September, DD is joining Theatre Passe Muraille for their Queen West Street Festival to kick off TPM’s Theatre Beyond Walls season. The Festival will have a wide range of activities, ranging from performance to local food, interactive learning programs, and everything in between. DD will take the stage with spoken word performances by Angelica LeMinh and Rosina Kazi.

Come visit our booth during festival hours and say hello. Hope to see you there!

DD at Word on the Street

We are always pleased to join the excellent Word On The Street book and magazine festival. This year, on Sunday September 25, we’ll be presenting a packed hour of cutting-edge Toronto talent at the City of Toronto tent from 2:00-3:00 p.m.

Hosted by Andrew Clark, make sure you stop by to hear readings by novelist Ibi Kaslik (The Angel Riots), poet Margaret Christakos (Welling, Sooner), and emerging writers/TOK Book 6 contributors Jo SiMalaya Alcampo, Jennifer Marston, and Sheila Murray.
